Steering Committee

In order to assure that the quality of the research at the MWERF would be of the highest standards and that the direction of this research would be focused in the most strategic and pertinent way, MeadWestvaco invited a panel of accomplished scientists and natural resource leaders to serve on a Steering Committee for the Forest. The nine members are drawn from organizations that have demonstrated an uncommon commitment to the stewardship of natural resources through education, research, and conservation activities. These organizations encompass a broad spectrum of the natural resources community and bring a diverse and comprehensive perspective to many compelling issues that face us today. Members serve at the pleasure of their respective organizations for an open-ended term.

The Steering Committee solicits, reviews, and recommends research proposals for the Forest. In addition they provide overall guidance and direction to the research program. Members also contribute through supporting and/or initiating grants for funding research.

From its inception in 1994, this group has played a key role in the development of this Forest. The excellent contribution that they have made to this living laboratory, and wildlife conservation in general was recently recognized by The Wildlife Society's 2000 Wildlife Stewardship Group Award. MeadWestvaco is appreciative of the hard work and dedication of this group and the valuable contributions that they have made, and will continue to make, to the success of the Forest.
